Solo travel
Go alone. Never unsupported.
Solo trips planned for freedom first: stays chosen for travelling alone, arrivals timed with daylight in mind, a live itinerary you can share with someone at home, and honest pricing on single rooms.
Solo confidence
The quiet things that let you wander.
None of this is a tour leader or a tracker. It is planning that assumes you will be on your own at the moments that matter: landing, checking in, coming home late.
Stays chosen for arriving alone
Before a stay is labelled solo-ready in your plan, we confirm four practical things with the property in writing. If any is missing, you see which one, and you decide.
- A staffed reception through the night, or a named contact for late arrival
- An entrance you can reach without a long, unlit walk
- A room that locks securely from the inside
- Recent guest notes on the neighbourhood after dark
When you land after dark
Where the route allows, we suggest flights and trains that arrive in daylight, and we say clearly when the best option lands late. Then the arrival is planned like any other leg.
- A pre-paid, named transfer, with driver details in your trip hub before you land
- If plans change, official pre-paid taxi counters or app cabs from marked pickup zones
- The stay’s address saved offline, in the local script where it helps
- Local emergency numbers in your plan: 112 works across the EU and in India
For women travelling solo
Many women travel alone with great confidence, and some like to have particular options in place. Everything here is a choice you make, never an assumption we make for you.
- Women drivers or guides, where local services offer them
- Women-only floors or dorms in hotels and hostels that have them
- In India, the ladies’ quota on many trains and women-only coaches on metros such as Delhi’s
- Dress customs at religious sites, and asking reception to write your room number rather than say it aloud
The single supplement, explained
Hotels charge by the room. When a holiday is priced “per person, twin share”, two travellers split each room. Travelling alone, you carry the whole room, and the difference is the single supplement.
Ways to reduce it: hotels with a lower single-occupancy rate, stays with true single rooms, shoulder-season dates, and departures where an operator trims the supplement. We show it as its own line, never hidden in a total.
One night, one room Sample
- Room rate for two
- ₹12,000
- Per person, twin share
- ₹6,000
- Single-occupancy rate
- ₹10,500
- Single supplement
- ₹4,500
Illustrative figures. Real supplements vary by hotel and season.
Check in with me
A day abroad, gently accounted for.
Some travellers like a simple rhythm of check-ins with one person at home. You decide the times, the person and whether a missed check-in sends them a nudge.
Check-ins are an arrangement between you and your contact, not an emergency service. In an emergency, always call local emergency services.

Good company, when you want it
Alone is a choice, not a condition.
The best solo trips mix long, unhurried hours of your own with a few moments shared. We plan both.
- Small-group food walks and cooking classes, where conversation comes easily. Browse experiences.
- Guided half-days in places like Hampi, where a local guide brings the ruins to life, then leaves you to the sunset.
- Guesthouses and boutique stays with communal breakfasts, chosen for atmosphere as much as location.
- Travelling with friends next time? Group trips share one plan and split the cost.
A first solo trip
Places that make going alone easy.
Good transport, a culture of eating alone without a second glance, and stays that welcome one guest as warmly as two.
- Japan Trains that run to the minute, superb solo dining at counters, and capsule-to-ryokan choices. Plan Japan
- Ladakh Big landscapes, warm guesthouses and shared jeeps, best between May and September. Plan Ladakh
- Sri Lanka A compact island with a famous hill-country train and easy-going guesthouses. See the circuit
- Kerala Homestays, a houseboat night and a slow, well-worn route through the south. See the circuit
FAQ
Travelling alone, asked and answered.
What is a single supplement, and can it be avoided?
Hotels price rooms, not people, so a package priced “per person, twin share” assumes two guests split each room. Travelling alone, you pay for the whole room, and the difference is the single supplement. You can reduce it by choosing hotels with a lower single-occupancy rate, stays with genuine single rooms, travelling in shoulder season, or departures where an operator reduces the supplement. We show the supplement as its own line so you can compare.
Who can see my shared live itinerary, and does it track my location?
Only the people you invite. They see a read-only view of your flights, trains, stays and transfers, and any changes as they happen. It does not track your phone’s location, and it never shows payment details or documents. You can stop sharing at any time, and the link stops working when your trip ends.
What happens if my flight lands late at night?
Where the route allows, we suggest arrivals before dark and tell you plainly when one does not. For a late landing, we book a pre-paid transfer with the driver’s details in your trip hub, choose a stay with a staffed reception or a confirmed late check-in, and save the address for you offline.
Can I ask for a woman driver or women-only accommodation?
Yes. Women drivers and guides can be requested where local services offer them, and some hotels and hostels have women-only floors or dorms. These are preferences you choose; we never assume them. When we cannot confirm a request, we say so before you book.
Will booking solo put me on a group tour?
No. A solo trip is planned around you alone, on your own schedule. If you would like company for part of it, you can add small-group experiences such as food walks or cooking classes, and step back to travelling independently afterwards.
